DECEMBER HIRE
All aboard for a winter break afloat!
Your December break on the Kennet & Avon Canal
Cruise England’s widebeam craft offer cosy accommodation perfect for a one-of-a kind winter break. The boats have central heating as well as woodburning stoves to provide extra heat for truly toasty evenings. There’s nothing like waking on board to crisp frosty mornings, or cosying up inside whilst listening to rain on the roof, something which has its own special pleasure.
Travel as much or as little as you like; you may opt to enjoy the scenery slipping by, or choose to moor near a postcard pretty village such as Wooton Rivers or Wilton, both of which have traditional country pubs. We will happily provide you with a list of suggested watering holes along the way!
We are based at Burbage Wharf - on the summit of the Kennet & Avon Canal: perfectly positioned to offer holidays in both directions. Our private, and very historic, wharf allows you to pull up alongside your boat, unload, and then securely park your car ready for your return. Then you just need to choose which direction you would like to travel and decide the duration of your holiday.
How far can we go during our canal boat holiday?
If you set out West on a Short Break, you’ll travel the beautiful Vale of Pewsey to reach the thriving market town of Devizes and be able to stroll from there to admire the famous Caen Hill Locks. A week or longer would take you down that famous flight towards the historic towns of Bradford on Avon and Bath.
Heading East offers sublime scenery, history and sightseeing, interspersed with a gentle succession of locks taking you down along the Kennet Valley. On a Short Break you’ll cruise through the Bruce Tunnel, past Crofton Steam Pumps and Wilton Water, as far as Hungerford.
You may even choose to travel in both directions!
We’ll happily discuss your options with you.
